Cooking…

Today has been a week since I left Santa Barbara, and I miss it so much that it seems WAAAY more. However I’m enjoying my home city and all the components of it. The weather feels nice, my parent’s new apartment is glorious and friends still know how to make me laugh. Things are very good, thank you very much! The best part of all is my cooking… I’m officially part of the women who bring food to the gatherings. Is it great?! 😀 Everybody knows how much I love to cook, and having my family enjoying my food and asking for the recipe is the greatest gift I could ask for.

My parent got me in the airport on Tuesday, and on Wednesday practically my whole family got together to celebrate my return, and we had a barbecue. YES, a meat barbecue. It sucks, I know, but they ate their meat (ew!) and I made some vegan sides. Everybody loved it! Everything was gone by the end of the night, my food was a success. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of it, but FYI I cooked whole grain rice, potato salad with vegan mayo and veggie farofa (it’s a brazilian dish, click to learn more). But since the farofa was SO good, I made again and I have picture of that 😉

I know it doesn’t look great, but it was sooo tasty! Want the recipe? (for those ones that know portuguese, I got this recipe from here.)

1 carrot
Green pepper
1/2 can of corn
10 chopped green olives
1/2 onion
Garlic, salt and black pepper (your taste)
250g of manic flour

4 tbspoons of olive oil

how to:
Cut, and peel the carrots. Cook them until soft (poke with fork to test it)
Chop the onions, green peppers, the garlic. Put in a pan along with the olive oil and fry it.

Add the corn, the flour and the olives and mix well.

Done! So easy, right? But the thing I love doing it is SMOTHIES! Brazil’s doesn’t have Blenders so I have to blend my own drinks. This one I made today and it was GREAT!

So good, right? Recipe? 🙂

1 mango
1 papaya
2 oranges
1 banana
ice

1 cup of water

how to:

Put everything inside the blender, and blend 😉

That’s it! I think this was a very long post, I’m off now! 😀 Hopefully next time I will have more pictures!

Best Wishes.

Tea party…

When I was still living in Brazil, I always asked my mom to buy some tea. She would, and I would drink once. Tops! But since I got here, I decided to make tea a part of my life, and now I drink it everyday, sometimes even twice a day. I love the warm feeling in my belly and how light I feel afterwords. My favorite (until today) was Herbal Tea, no sugar, no honey… just tea! However, walking through State St. today, I decided to finally buy my teapot (I didn’t have any, what a shame!) and choose Teavana to do so. Although is a expensive store, I found my pick (this), and obviously I had to take some tea also 😀 That was REALLY expensive, and let me totally broke, but it was worth it! They let you choose what kinds of flavors you want to blend and for me the perfect choice was the Raspberry Riot Lemon Mate and the Weight to Go! Pu-erh. When I got home, the first thing I did was to start boiling the water, and to prepare! The blend is AMAZING! The raspberry is so tasteful, the lime gives a citrus taste and along with mint this tea is perfection. Forget about Herbal tea, Raspberry Riot Lemon Mat-Weight to Go! Pu-erh t is one hundred times better!

My afternoon was delightful and the best way to finish my weekend.

(my new teapot and the actual tea)

BTW: 3 weeks until the end of school. Yey!!

Oh, thanks for everyone that took time to read my last post and supports my decision!! Even made me want to post more 🙂

My dear Margarita…

I must say: I didn’t wake up happy today. After yesterday’s bash, I woke up feeling tired and not wanting to go to class at all. As a result, I missed my first class and did horribly in my Shakespeare monologue. My feelings didn’t get better during the afternoon either, and I spend 3 hours moaning to my friend (thanks for listening, Aline). THANKFULLY we decided to go out, and God knows there is no way to feel sad walking around beautiful Santa Barbara. Although drinking age in US is not something to be celebrated, today this wasn’t a problem. She ordered a frozen Margarita (my favorite drink in the whole world) and I whenever the waitress weren’t around, I had a sip of that delightful drink. Oh Margarita! By the end of the night everything was ok. Don’t you just love when that happens?

And of top of all we got invited to join three guys in another bar 🙂 Not bad for a crappy day, huh?
