Living room…

College life… How amazing is that?? The freedom, the friends, the parties, your own place… I’m having such a blast this semester! I mean, my roommates are the bests (we are our little family), our house is more that I could ask for and my classes couldn’t be better. BUT I’m not here today to talk about how amazing things are, actually I’m here to help future college student’s 😀 not those ones that don’t really care about how their house looks, instead I’m talking to those that have the feeling of creating a “homie” environment.

In the last few days we have been focused in finding furniture to our place, and as an inspiration I found this picture:

I LOVE how the owner created this romantic atmosphere with just a white couch, cute pillows, a big mirror and some pictures. Obviously we (college students) are really short on cash and it’s harder to create such cute room, but I believe that with a great idea everything is possible. Just keep your eye on craigslist, target, walmart and other cheap stores. You never know when you can find an unique piece for your new home.

Best Wishes,
Agatha.

Wish-list…

WARNING: POSTS TO GIRLS.

Good news: I don’t have to think about positive things today! No, things are still the same, but I’m just 20 days away to go back home, and I couldn’t be happier. Thankfully he days are passing by really fast! My anxiety is so big that lately my top sites are craigslist (housing search), decor online shopping (beso, target, urban outfitters) and other AMAZING findings to my own personal delight, like clothes 😀 I’ve became an addict in bookmarking fabulous closet pieces, and today I decided to share the ones that I NEED to get it, ASAP!

I have more than 100 links on my “Closet” bookmark folder, including girly flower dresses, navy shorts, wet leggings, oxford shoes, maxi colorful rings and satin scarves, but there are things that I need more than rainbow pieces. So on today’s list, you will only find black&white and my favorite: NUDE! Clothes that will match anything you have in your closet and are the easiest to put together. You’re welcome 😉

note: the jacket is by “Elizabeth and James” and the pumps are by “Jessica Simpson”.

The websites I choose are affordable and you can always find cute things if you dig strong enough. Beso.com is definitely my favorite, right after Asos.com and Forever21.com. AmericanApparel (as we all know) is famous for their simple things and this bodysuit is just PERFECT! FashionDelivery.com.br is a brazilian website, and I don’t know it very well, it was just the only one I found that sold this AMAZING clutch. And last but not least is CiaMaritima.com.br (another brazilian store), which in my opinion has one the bests swimming collections year after year.

Personal secret: I’ve dreaming about this pump for a LONG time! Please God, give me one 😉

What about you? What’s your summer wish-list?

Best Wishes!

Life…

Every time I start writing, my biggest hidden feelings jump in (without being called) and my fingers start typing by themselves, and sometimes I can’t find good things to talk about. Unfortunately today is one of those days, but I made a promise to myself a long time ago that I wouldn’t type or write bad feelings or what is going wrong with my life. Instead I will only record good moments and happy days. This is what I’ll try to do today.

The best part of being in Brazil is meeting my friends. On Friday, me and 3 other girl friends went to a japanese restaurant (they had vegetarian menu) and it was the best meal I had since I got back, not because of the food (the place was VERY full and the service wasn’t great at all) but the company was worth it. Spending time with people you know since 5th grade is so relaxing, especially because you know that almost no one knows you that good, and nothing you say will be taken in the wrong way; sometimes you don’t even have to say anything. I can’t wait for next weekend!

Also, as always, I have been cooking a lot, and these past days I had the opportunity to try some whole-wheat baked eggplant and zucchini pastry, homemade soy strawberry/banana/orange juice ice-cream and stuffed sweet potato (eggplant&zucchini filling). Everything was very very VERY good! Being vegan is so great 😀 BTW today has been two months since I’ve became a veg. So nice! Especially because on Saturday I went with my dad to a brazilian “farmer’s market” and indulge myself with a lot of veggies and fruits. I’m packed for the week. My list included: Eggplants, zucchinis, carrots, sweet potatoes, 3 kinds of lettuce, tomatoes, regular potatoes, strawberries, bananas, pineapple and maracujá. It was very fun, and we spend less than $15 (R$26)!!! Soooo cheap!

Well, I think what I’m trying to say is no matter how bad things are, you can always find the good side of life and have fun. Coming back to Brazil is being hard and I wanna go back to California as soon as possible but we can’t have everything at once and life is about suffering, so lets just try to make our best of it and forget about the bad moments. “Everything is gonna be alright”. I will accomplish my dreams, my parents will stop judging me and I will find a guy that I love and loves me back. Someday…

Best Wishes,

Agatha.

Cooking…

Today has been a week since I left Santa Barbara, and I miss it so much that it seems WAAAY more. However I’m enjoying my home city and all the components of it. The weather feels nice, my parent’s new apartment is glorious and friends still know how to make me laugh. Things are very good, thank you very much! The best part of all is my cooking… I’m officially part of the women who bring food to the gatherings. Is it great?! 😀 Everybody knows how much I love to cook, and having my family enjoying my food and asking for the recipe is the greatest gift I could ask for.

My parent got me in the airport on Tuesday, and on Wednesday practically my whole family got together to celebrate my return, and we had a barbecue. YES, a meat barbecue. It sucks, I know, but they ate their meat (ew!) and I made some vegan sides. Everybody loved it! Everything was gone by the end of the night, my food was a success. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of it, but FYI I cooked whole grain rice, potato salad with vegan mayo and veggie farofa (it’s a brazilian dish, click to learn more). But since the farofa was SO good, I made again and I have picture of that 😉

I know it doesn’t look great, but it was sooo tasty! Want the recipe? (for those ones that know portuguese, I got this recipe from here.)

1 carrot
Green pepper
1/2 can of corn
10 chopped green olives
1/2 onion
Garlic, salt and black pepper (your taste)
250g of manic flour

4 tbspoons of olive oil

how to:
Cut, and peel the carrots. Cook them until soft (poke with fork to test it)
Chop the onions, green peppers, the garlic. Put in a pan along with the olive oil and fry it.

Add the corn, the flour and the olives and mix well.

Done! So easy, right? But the thing I love doing it is SMOTHIES! Brazil’s doesn’t have Blenders so I have to blend my own drinks. This one I made today and it was GREAT!

So good, right? Recipe? 🙂

1 mango
1 papaya
2 oranges
1 banana
ice

1 cup of water

how to:

Put everything inside the blender, and blend 😉

That’s it! I think this was a very long post, I’m off now! 😀 Hopefully next time I will have more pictures!

Best Wishes.

Brazil…

In less than 4 days I will step in São Paulo once again, and I must say: I’m VERY excited! Excited to compare, to explore, to have fun, to kiss my family, to hug my friends, to hold Daniel in my arms and to take Marzipan for a long walk. I want to walk around by myself, go to Augusta St. in the middle of the afternoon for no reason, meditated in the middle of São Paulo’s hectic traffic, party my ASS off and enjoy this summer (winter in Brazil) like I never did before. Although this semester was a dream come true in every single way, I’m definitely prepared to take a break and to enjoy the most of it. With responsibility 😉 of course. I want to go to Cachaçarias, to Bubu Lounge, to Sub Astor, to Vila Madalena, to have lunch with my parents on Saturdays, to spends nights watching TV at Andréia’s house, to able to buy a drink without showing my ID, to drink a glass of wine while having dinner, to go to Pão de Açúcar, to be brazilian in Brazil and to WATCH THE WORLD CUP!!! Really, I’m very excited for that 😀 Going to bars to watch the game, or staying at home bitting my nails off and cursing the judge (and the players), or hearing people shouting out the window after a goal, or shouting out the window after a goal. BRASIL, AQUI VOU EU!

This pasts months were so perfect that the thing I want the most is to be delighted in my own country, sharing my experiences and telling people about the amazing characters I met in California, and how INCREDIBLE  is Hollywood 😀 I learned so much from everyone and it will be impossible to forget about those faces. Thank you, Santa Barbara! This firsts months were flawless. Thankfully is just the beginning. Anyways, I’m coming back so there is no need to write this “goodbye” post. In August 2nd everything is starting once again. Hostel, apartment hunting, paying for the bus… I can’t wait!

Best Wishes.

1 month anniversary…

Friday was my first vegan month birthday, and for me this concept is so natural that I even forgot about the date! But I cannot forget to congratulate myself for this accomplishment, and to thank all the people that make this so much easier; I have such good friends!

For this “blog party” I though about doing a journal with everything I ate this past month (great idea!) but to tell you the truth I didn’t eat no fancy vegan food, so I decided to make a list with all the vegan products that I got the chance to try out. 100% of them are SOOO GOOD!

Cookies: I’m obsessed for cookies, and I was so glad when I found out that I didn’t have to give up on them.

I know how a lot of people think that vegan sweets suck, but actually they are WAY better than the normal ones. The first one (by Alternative Baking Co.) is SOOO good, moist and fulfilling. The ones from Uncle Eddie’s are my favorite, since they are small and perfect (peanut butter and chocolate is the best cookie I ever had all my life). And the last one (by Dr. Lucy) is very good too, although is more dry than the others, but still pretty tasty. Healthy, tasty and cruelty free cookies, what else do I need? If I were you, I would rush to closest store in the list to get some, you won’t be disappointed.

info.:
Natural Cafe loc: 509 State St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Lazy Acres Market loc: 302 Meigs Rd, Santa Barbara, CA 93109
Starbucks loc: 800 State Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

They also sell online, but I love having lunch at Natural Cafe (outside in the sun, with my best-friends) and then having some perfect vegan desert. It’s up to you 😉

Main meals: I try to keep it simple, especially because I don’t have the patience to cook every single day, twice a day. I love to cook, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes is just nice to spend my time doing other things (watching True Blood, for example).

Veggie Burger (by GardenBurger) is the best vegan invention, REALLY! The veggies inside of it are so good, and the consistence is flawless. The Roasted Vegetable Pizza, No Cheese (by Amy’s Kitchen) is very unusual, and it’s a completely different pizza experience, light in the tummy and so good for the mouth. Amy’s soups are very good too, but I understand that a lot of people are not up for soup, I love it though. And bread… oh bread! What would I do without you? I like Alvarado St. Bakery because organic is the word that reins my vocabulary. Organic fruits, organic vegetables, organic supermarket, organic sugar… ORGANIC!!! Taste so much better, and with good plaining is not heavy in the pocket either. I know how expensive (and marvelous) Lazy Acres (or Whole Foods) is but there’s always good places around you that sell organics, just look harder. Did go to the Farmer’s Market closest to you? Research, ask, walk around, read about it… having information about what you eat is your choice. Think about it!

Deserts and Snacks: I’m definitely a desert and snack person! Sometimes I try to avoid it, but other times I just give in. Enjoying my food 🙂

Peanut Butter… with bread… The only thing I can say is: Gimme Some!! BTW that one is from Arrowhead Mills Organic (I told you, I really like organic). The pieces of peanuts make me crazy, and I love eating just the peanut butter most of the times.

The crunchy Banana Chips are a great option when you have nothing sweet to eat, or when you don’t want loads of sugar. Sunridge Farms doesn’t add white sugar or artificial tastes, and that makes my head spin with joy 🙂

Now the sorbet… I love it so much! I just got it last week, and I’m trying to save as much as I can because is SOO good! I love mango, and along with tangerine makes it so special. Is by Double Rainbow Gourmet Ice Creams and I could eat it all day haha

There is so much alternatives for vegans everywhere that the transition was the easiest thing I ever get the chance to do in my whole life. As you can see I practically just buy groceries at Lazy Acres, because it works FOR ME, but you should go anywhere you want and feel better in it. As I said before: it’s your choice. Although I gave you some pretty good alternatives for your cookies, hamburger, pizza and even ice creams… Now it’s up to you, my friend (as Tatiana would say).

Later on I will do a list of my favorite vegan places to eat, just so you know hehe

I know that most of the people that read my blog aren’t vegan or vegetarians, and my goal is to show my readers how easy is to do something good to ourselves, our planets and the animals. I became a vegan because I wanted to (after reading about it) and maybe the same thing will happen to you. This choice isn’t just about health, is about how much do YOU care about what is going on around you. They need our help!

I am doing my part, what about you?

Best Wishes!

Meet your Meat…

“If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian.”  – Paul McCartney

I must say: since I became a Vegan I can’t stop searching for informations about anything related to the matter. From tasty recipes to new shocking videos that will help me to understand a little bit more every day. I seek those facts in blogs, forums, related websites… Each small part is important, and every single day I more proud of myself for making this choice, and more disgusted with animals products. I feel so better inside of my mind and with my body that sometimes even sounds like a dream: Wow, I am free of meat! However (once again) is not about me! It’s about them…

Is your choice to watch this, but I can guarantee that you won’t feel sorry you did.

We need to help them! Animals are not our property and we must stop treading them as they were!

Let’s make a difference in the world. How about that? Once YOU choose to get control of YOUR life, and what YOU put inside of YOUR body, things will be better, for you and for them!

Best Wishes.

“Truely man is the king of beasts, for his brutality exceeds theirs.  We live by the death of others:  we are burial places!  I have from an early age abjured the use of meat, and the time will come when men such as I will look on the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men.”  – Leonardo da Vinci
